  1. Hey can you explain why it is important to shoot above ‘normal sync speeds’
(above 1/200 second)? I’m confused where this technique comes in handy,
like outside or inside shoots, etc. Thanks

  2. umm So I have Nikon D3200 and doesn’t seem to have a way to allow me to go
past 1/200 shutterspeed, any help? the only way is to upgrade? :/

  3. AMAZING!!!

I loved that you went into detail as well as showed the difference between
    the different techniques 🙂

    Thank you, for sharing! :D

  4. Thanks for the informative video.
Could you tell me how to get the background completely black, I notice that
once you had dialled back 3 stops there was nowhere to go. Should I up my
shutter speed, or add another flash, or maybe use an ND filter?

  5. As many others said, this video is good, but is very Canon biased, as it
missed a very basic and important feature of Nikon cameras. You don’t have
to go into Manual mode. With Nikon, if you decrease the exposure comp for
the ambient light by -1, you can increase the flash compensation by the
same amount (+1 in this example) to keep your subject at the original
exposure. It is very easy and allows great separate control of ambient and
    flash.

  6. Thanks so much 🙂
I also found the Program mode very helpful for event shoot, where actions
and resources aren’t in our control 🙂
    Cheers from Bangalore India

  7. Whats a good flash for under 140$ that does eTTL and the settings you were
demonstrating on this video? Is the Yonguo speedlight 650 any good

  8. Thank you, Thank You, Thank you Mr. Ed. Gave you a thumbs up and added
video to my lighting playlist before i even watched the video. Now on to
the video been waiting for this.

  9. Fantastic tips and well-presented! One problem I’ve had, though…even
when I have my camera at Av and the flash at High Speed Sync, the shutter
speed sets itself very low. Is this a problem when inside shooting at low
light? Is it only possible to use Av and High Speed Sync flash outside when
there is a lot of ambient light?

  10. Ed, Your the BEST!! Your book and tutorials have given me confidence and
increased my the quality of my photos 110% I now take my flash with me all
    the time.
