If i am trying to balance my overall exposure by only darkening the sky what filter do i use?
~Warming color
~color graduated filter
~Neutral density graduated filter
~ softening filter..

  1. If you are using digital, just use Lightroom or Photoshop and skip all of the hassle. If not, I suggest a graduated filter or a combination of graduated filters of sorts. Graduation will target the sky or an area of your photograph specifically and should work most efficient.

  2. I second Edwin. A graduated neutral density filter will keep the sky from too light if you have it turned so the dark side side is up. It also works in reverse if you want the ground darker for some reason just turn it 180 degrees.

    A circular polarizer works great for those blue skies.

    Of course, if you have software the cheapest method is to do it in post processing on the computer.

    Don’t skimp on the filter. Check some reviews on the internet to see which ones are rated the best. Placing a cheap filter on your lens will degrade the quality of your photos. I prefer B&W or Heliopan. They are better even than the camera manufacturer’s filters.
