Q&A: Nikon D3100………..?

Question by Adrianna: Nikon D3100………..?
I have a nikon d3100 camera. I’m trying to take pictures for my website. I’m new to this whole photography thing. When I take pictures of my products they come out clear however the background is blurry. How can I fix this. what settings should I have the camera on..right now I’m using aperture mode (that’s what I was told to use). I would appreciate if someone could write out the step by step directions to setting the camera up. Thanks

If you need your background to be in focus, you will have to stop the lens down. Are you sure it is important that the background is sharp:? Leaving a background out of focus will cause the viewer to pay more attention to your product

Look on page 76 of your user manual.

Since you are shooting your own products, you may want to make sure that you are using a good sturdy tripod and remote shutter release. Remember to provide good lighting to show your products at their best.

  1. The instruction book that came with your camera gives you step by step instructions of how to go about setting your camera up. Why should we re-type those instructions for you?

You have purchased a fully adjustable, manual camera. These are complicated machines that take most people years to fully understand. If you are not planning on putting in the effort to read the instructions and learn how your camera works, return it an buy a nice point and shoot camera.
