  1. I use the 700 at pro level, I’m a road transport commercial photographer. I
need to be able to shoot any-day in any weather often at high shutter
speeds. The 700 pulls this off no problem. The 800 does give much better
resolution and detail is fantastic. What it doesn’t do is everything else.
shooting is often hampered by writing speeds. Fine for landscapes, macro
and the like. In-fact the 7000 and 7100 are far more profitable. Great vids
Matt, I always check your reviews before I buy !!

  2. D700 works since 2008. man this thing is super durable and takes great
pictures all the time! i am not sure if there is any camera out there
better than D700. why? 600/610 got some issues with oils or files pretty
big and plastic made, D800 too expensive, slow, and files too big. D3 or D4
and all other they are just too big. D700 is the best! we consumers want
D700’s ergonomics with a bit bigger sensor. how about D4 sensor with video
capability!!! DF is just stupid camera!

  3. Well said Matt, I would recommend the D700 if a person is going to have one
camera body only… it much more an all-around camera. The D800 has awesome
resolutions and the file are fabulous, but they’re also quite large. So if
you going to be doing a lot of shooting, some burst mode shooting, and
hight speed action photographer such as an air show or sporting event, car
race or something along the lines of street photography, parade, fairs,
etc. the D700 is a much better choice.

  4. The Nikon D800 has a better ISO performance. And….the Nikon D800 is not
just better than the Nikon D700. The Nikon D800 is also BETTER THAN THE
CANON 5DMK3! And…you know what? Even the Nikon new Nikon D600 is better
than the Canon 5DMK3 and better than the Nikon D700.

  5. The Nikon D800 today is about 2200 euro, very less for a FULL FRAME which
has the best sensor in the world, better than the MF Phase One. The video?
    The Format is 1920 x 1080, or 1280 x 720, and you can choose from 30 frames
    per second, or 25 frames per second, 60 frames per second(by 1280 x 720). I
prefer the D800, which is very fast with new professional memory
card(Compact Flash). The Nikon D700 is a LEGEND, but it’s an old project.
We should not be romantic, cameras are just tools.

  6. So you not used it (when uploaded this video). Check the D800 first and
make a good comparison. I worked for years with the D700 to my satisfaction
but i am astonished by the D800 results i have seen so far. Yesterday i
took pics in a big parking building with a low ceiling and my D7000 beat
the crap out of the D700 in D lighting. The D7000 is better in exposure
correction than de D700 so i wonder what de D800 brings in these kind of
    environments.

  7. @h4xxx0Rz. It’s a magnitude more information crammed into to the same sized
physical space. It will give you considerably more resolution, but more
noise as a result. I’m sure the engineering will compensate to give quite
good performance but the simple physics dictate it will likely be worse.
I’ve looked at the native NEF files from the D800 in the raw using View NX
2 at ISO 800-6400 and to my eye it is noisier than the D700 , which I own,
    in my experience.

  8. Well Matt it is Sept.2012 and the D600 has been released. And because the
numbers are sequential the internet is now full of “should I buy a 600 700
or 800”. Different tools are for different jobs, but people are not getting
    that.

  9. Matt, at the beginning of this video, you mention D700 as a 12 Mega Pixels,
My understanding is, that it is actually 16, please fix this, As always
thanks for great work you do, Cheers

  10. Instead of asking Matt which to buy, ask yourself what you shoot and need
and more importantly what you can afford .. cash not credit. For most i
expect tge answer will be a used D700.

  11. What makes you say the working ISO performance will be worse? Sure, it has
36.3 megapickles but surely the sensors have improved since the release of
the D700 that they are able to get good ISO performance even with that many
pixels. The D800 has a native ISO range of 100-6400 and the D700 200-6400
with both having an extended ISO of 25 600. I’m waiting for reviews when it
is release before making any judgements about the ISO performance.

  12. Actually, for wedding photography, 36mp resolution may prove to be
undesirable. For portraits, the 36mp sensor will show every zit and
blemish, leaving their elimination to post. I will be buying the D800E next
month and, by using the “QUAL” to reduce the resolution for head shots, it
will hopefully serve a variety of needs for architectural and landscape
photography at its max resolution. What is “Detailed” resolution for most
photography is “harsh” for weddings and headshots.

  13. Looks like fun you guys, even though you had very little sleep and rushed
around like mad. What kind of money would it cost for that trip to
    Taichung?
