I was ready to hate this camera. Leica is known for making cameras
woefully behind the times with technology and having the highest prices
around. And by behind the times, I don’t just mean the rangefinder
concept, but low resolution lcd screen, small buffer, etc, etc. However,
this is the first Leica that I’ve seen which is ahead of the times
technologically, and which doesn’t cost an arm and a leg (only a few
fingers and a foot). I would think that this camera might piss off
die-hard Leica lovers (who want to pretend that they live in the 1960s),
but it is actually by far the most interesting Leica I’ve seen yet.
Steve, does the built in flash hit the lens when in use?
First the Pro (singular): I LOVE the menu system. It should be a model for
others to follow – simple, intuitive, Apple-like. Much better than the
convoluted, obtuse jungle on the Sonys & Panasonics I use.
Cons: Focus magnification is vastly inferior to focus peaking. Once again
Leica decides to go half-assed instead of cutting edge. Continuing the
half-assed tradition is crappy IS. Unbelievable. This isn’t even cutting
edge; it’s mainstream and Leica still can’t get it right. You can’t turn
off auto-review??? Are you kidding??? Of course Leica would never stoop to
a super useful tilting/articulating LCD? So beneath them. Again half-assed.
No fully silent e-shutter? Even the discontinued $500. Lumix G5 had that
and it works great. The complete kit with $600. less than world class VF,
(but not including the $400 M adapter) is $4100. Continuing the proud
digital Leica tradition of overpriced & underfeatured. Who in their right
mind would buy this over priced, hand polished status symbol? Again,
insecure Leica fashion queens obsessed with “coolness”.
You can get a Sony a7 kit for $2000 that will produce superior results with
full frame. Add a $50-$100 M adapter and you get FF with M lenses (with
focus peaking) as opposed to the APS-C crop.
Thanks for the review, BH Photo has the camera already for sale for about
$1,800.00 for the body alone. It seems really impressive and at that price
its tempting to buy. Also to me owning a Leica is a little like having a
Porsche. The camera will eventually become old and out dated but it will
always have that coolness factor other cameras will never have. Now I
have something new to wish for :-)
OH please…I hope Apple does not make a Camera Like this. Woefully low
16mp. but I have a question. What if the touch screen dies? How do you
shoot? Does this camera have manual?
not digging the lack of manual controls
The completely new APS-C sized *Leica T*
Fully made out of aluminium.
This camera looks like camera from Sony (the body) but it is more:
The lack of buttons on the back (only a touch screen) and a really simple
interface make this 16 megapixel APS-C sensored camera a camera for
beginners? No, cause the camera will cost 1,900 (ok, that *is* cheap for a
Leica).
Overall: It´s a georgeous new Leica!
#photography #leica #leicat
A handmade dumb aluminum design, outdated technic and a red point. I don’t
expect anything else. It’s a Leica.
battery reminds me of a magazine for the gun… nice. not a fan of all
touchscreen though
It’s very nice, but I will keep with my Canon Eos M. It has a great touch
screen too. Works in a similar way to the iPhone.
So is this camera like a DSLR or like Sony’s NEX or Sony a7? sorry im new
to cameras
It’s like a copy of Apple and Samsung galaxy camera..lol
Is this an E mount?
The X-Vario should have been this camera. I’m pretty sure Leica will
discontinue that camera in the next year.
its sharp looking i like the body and the touch screen i think its
something new i would like some more buttons but i like it the only thing i
didn’t like was the price like you said
If Apple made this camera it would be 1000 euro
Steve that thing looks like a shiny NEX 5r with the NEX 7 dials. Defiantly
a prettier lunar camera!!! PASS!!!
Not sure why a sane person would almost spend 2000 bucks on this…
looks more like a samsung nx copy.
How’s that touch screen look in bright sunlight? Also, what was the
dithering on the screen?
Definitely one of the ugliest camera’s I’ve ever seen 😉
Thanks for the review though!
$1850+600 for view finder? No thanks… Great camera but not worth the
sticker price.
