+Tanguero5380 The extension tube wouldn’t change the calculation you would
use to find out DOF. It will still just be a matter of format, focal
length, aperture, and distance from the subject. The calculation doesn’t
change if you need to use an extension tube to be able to focus that close
to the subject. So, if you are getting a DOF of 0.067 cm, that would be the
same regardless if you needed an extension tube to focus 5 cm from the
subject. Christina askbh@bandh.com
i learned a lot in this video. Question – in looking at marco lenses i see
that some have a range of f stop while others do not. what is the advantage
or disadvantage of either. I’m thinking a range is better.
This is a long (more than 100 minutes) tutorial video about Micro
Photography. Grab a cup of coffee, and… 😉

Errata @ 59 minutes 54 seconds: “what is focus stacking? Taking different
shots at a different distance”, if you listen to the video and don’t watch
it (like I did), it is in fact “taking different shots at a different focus
angle”. No big deal, but it did not make sense to my French ears. Overall
very good video. Thank you for sharing.
He forgot to mention reversing a wide angle lens, thats a really easy way
to get into this if all you have is a 18 to 55 kit or something wide, just
take the glass out of a uv filter gut a body cap out , screw the uv filter
on and hot glue it to the body cap… 😉 have fun, and be carefull with
your glass
Guys, I have a question (maybe’s been already answered, but I couldn’t find
it) : can I add an extension tube to my 1:1 macro lens? And if I can, will
it “amplify” my ratio to 2:1,let’s say?
One other thing…I simply can’t understand the 1:1 definition…real life
size? Sensor is pretty small, flowers are big, how come it’ll have the same
size on sensor as the real life size?
Thank you and sorry if they are dumb questions!
That was the best youtube experience…Thanks a lot.
Check out this video on YouTube:
what about taking a picture with a regular 50mm lens an a high-res camera,
such as the D800, and crop the heck out of it until you fill the frame with
the bug’s eye? Due to the 36MP resolution, you’d still have decent details
all the way to 100% crop and end up with a decent sized frame after
cropping.
Is that macro photography?
hi there 🙂 love the video and thank you. i just want to ask .. . would a
full frame camera be better?? i am shooting with an A77 and thinking of
upgrading to the A99. many thanks
Excellent, outstanding lecture. Thank you for posting it…I learned so
much. You have an engaging style and know how to meet your audience where
we are and take us several levels forward. I can’t wait to try to apply
some of what I’ve learned. At 1:34:14 you mention a relatively inexpensive
focus rail that you recommend, but didn’t mention the model. I’m guessing
that could be the Dot Line Adjustable Camera Platform…is that the one?
the first 75% are boring, but the last 25% are inspiring! Be sure to watch
it all!
Excellent.
Very complete and clear tutorial. Even the spoken English is good to
understand for non native viewers in other languages. Thanks for sharing
this video!
1. Sees the dude using an apple laptop
2. Questions every bit of his authority and know-how
B&H thank you so much for this presentation, thanks to it, it got me hook
into Macro Photography. I truly appreciate it…
Great teaching skills.
