NO, it’s a digital camera
However it does have the body and some features of traditional 35mm cameras
they refer to it as a Digital SLR camera
because the lenses can be swapped out just like a 35mm camera

if you are a beginner, you might want to look for a point and shoot camera, something with not as many advanced features.

Kodak cameras offer simplicity of use and a descent quality picture (especially their digital line of cameras)

however there are lots of options for you.

you need to determine a few things before buying a digital camera / or a 35mm

1- what are you gonna be taking pictures of?
action, friends, landscaping,people, animals
2- how light or compact should the camera be?
– what kind of a zoom does the lense need?
2- how much money do you want to spend?
3- do you want to print the photos at home
and quickly view them on your pc
(do you have a pc and photo printer)?
4- how many years do you need the photo’s to last
(ink jet and laser printed photo’s can last anywhere from
25-100yrs)

  1. Well, yes and no. The photo sensor inside the camera is approximately the same size as the amount of space exposed on a 35mm film roll. However, the resolution will be much better as it is digital and not film. The instructor may actually want you to use a film camera, and yes they are still out there. The purpose of the class is probably to help you learn through experimentation with the film medium as opposed to digital photography since the camera processes everything automatically (as long as you know how to adjust the menu settings) On a film camera you are in control of the ISO, exposure settings, and thus will probably learn more so that you have a full understanding of photography. If you haven’t purchased your camera yet, ask the insructor if it is allowed to use digital cameras. If the instructor does let you use digital medium, I reccomend the Canon EOS series or the Rebel XT for several reasons, the more important ones being compatibility with most accessory lenses (except Nikon or Sony) and they are more user friendly than the Nikon.
